I'm not really against him as a character but it feels super weird that this dude just drops in, does literally nothing to earn anyone's respect other than being slightly intelligent, and now he's basically running the guild. It wasn't explained but I'm guessing the whole making a vow to be someone's knight makes certain restrictions that you can't go against them in any harmful way. It's the fact that he hasn't earned his position in the social hierarchy.
They just drop him in the immediate 2 spot, despite literally every other character in the guild having far stronger bonds and more positive history with Greed, and suddenly this random guy who we only saw interact with Greed for about half a dozen pages prior is dictating the course of the entire guild and therefore this entire series going forward. It's just completely unnatural and not how social groups or even human interaction work, even if this guy is good for the job and has the best of intentions in mind. Both for the characters in the series and the readers sake, he should build relationships with other guild members especially Greed over time and allow us to see his personality and prowess so that it becomes understandable why the entire guild follows his orders.
